From September 11 to 12, a scientific and practical school on capillary sequencing, organized by the Helikon company, was held at the Center for Molecular Genetic Research of the Kuban State Agrarian University. Employees of various selection centers of the region took part in the training. The lecturers at the event were representatives of the Helikon company, who have extensive practical experience in the field of molecular genetic research. Capillary sequencing is a reliable and well-proven method for decoding the genomes of living organisms. Currently, it is widely used in various areas of human activities such as selection, forensics, medicine, biotechnology. For example, work is underway to create genetic passports of grape varieties and lines from the collection of the Kuban State Agrarian University using the fragment analysis method using capillary electrophoresis. – Modern methods, especially molecular genetic ones, are developing very quickly, new solutions are appearing that simplify and increase the efficiency of researchers and analysts. Therefore, in order to meet the world level in the field of molecular genetics, a constant exchange of experience is necessary. It is great that Kuban breeders have such an opportunity to communicate with specialists who, by the nature of their work, are at the peak of modern technologies in the field of molecular genetics, - said the head of the Center for Molecular Genetic Research Yuri Podushin. The classes were held at the Center for Molecular Genetic Research, which was created at the Kuban State Agrarian University as part of the federal program "Priority 2030". - The center has the laboratory equipment that allows the implementation of the most modern molecular genetic methods in the interests of selection. Currently, we are engaged in genetic certification of grapes, assessing breeding material for resistance to phytopathogens, herbicides, deciphering the genomes of new strains of microorganisms, - notes laboratory assistant Anastasia Elisyutikova. The training consisted of a theoretical part, during which the students were introduced to modern solutions in the field of capillary electrophoresis and various methods of its application. Particular attention was paid to practical classes, during which specialists taught the method of fragment analysis using capillary electrophoresis step by step from sample preparation to analysis and interpretation of the obtained data. A special feature of the training was that all the work was carried out on new domestic equipment - the Locus Seqtor 1616 sequencer and Helicon Genmap software. - The event turned out to be memorable and practically very useful. I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers for the high-quality preparation of the event and to the lecturers for their high professionalism and accessibility in the presentation of the material. The use of knowledge and practical experience obtained within the school allows to improve the quality and efficiency of work in molecular genetic research in various fields of activity. - summed up the results of the classes the head of the project office of the Kuban State Agrarian University Svetlana Morozkina.
