Research Institute of Biotechnology and Food Certification of Kuban State Agrarian University has been working since 2009.
In 2006, Kuban State Agrarian University, within the framework of the national project “Education”, received a presidential grant for the implementation of the innovative educational program “Production, processing and certification of crop products”, winning a competition among 200 universities in the country.
As a result, a new structural unit was created – the Research Institute of Biotechnology and Food Certification, which includes an accredited testing laboratory “Food Quality Center” and a scientific laboratory for functional foods, equipped with modern laboratory equipment.
The director of the research institute since its founding is Lyudmila Vladimirovna Donchenko, D.Sc. in engineering, Professor, Honored Scientist of Kuban, Honorary Worker of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation, Full Member of the International Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Academy of Quality Problems.
The main activities of the Research Institute of Biotechnology and Food Certification are:
- quality control and food safety assurance in accordance with the requirements of technical regulations, national and international standards;
- development of high technologies for processing agricultural products;
- development of technical and technological documentation for putting new types of food products into production;
- creation of new types of functional food products.
The testing laboratory is “Center for Food Quality”
The testing laboratory “Center for Food Quality” of the Research Institute of Biotechnology and Food Certification (testing laboratory of the Research Institute of Biotechnology and Food Product Certification) is accredited by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology for independence and technical competence.
The scope of accreditation includes food raw materials, food and alcoholic products, food and biologically active additives, feed. Tests are carried out for compliance with quality and safety indicators regulated by the federal laws of the Russian Federation, national, interstate and international standards, technical regulations (TR CU) and SanPiN.
Such a wide scope of accreditation made it possible not only to expand the range of research, but also determined the possibility of accreditation in 2019 in the new national certification system (NCS), which is supervised by Rosstandart. Its essence lies in confirming food products for compliance with the requirements of national standards, regardless the fact that they were developed in accordance with the regulatory documentation (including technical specifications). The system is developing now. There are only 59 accredited NCS laboratories in the country, and they are part of regional Centers of Standardization and Metrology. The uniqueness of our laboratory is that, it is not a structural unit of the Center of Standardization and Metrology, but it still was accredited, that means that a special decision on inclusion in the NCS was made.
The structure of the accredited testing laboratory includes:
- microbiological testing laboratory;
- laboratory of sensory and PCR analysis;
- laboratory of safety indicators;
- laboratory for the quality of alcoholic products;
- laboratory of physical and chemical tests.
Scientific laboratory of functional nutrition products.
The main scientific project of our Research Institute is the project “Universal complex for the production of pectin and pectin products from various plant materials”. The project was awarded the Grand Prix, 12 gold, 8 silver and 2 bronze medals at international salons of inventions, innovations and new technologies (Russia, France, Germany, South Korea, China, Switzerland, Malaysia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia). The technology was mastered by the Hungarian company Sunland. The project has attracted interest from a number of Russian companies, especially the production of liquid pectin from beet pulp, including within the framework of the global Arctic Food project and the state project “Military Nutrition”.
The laboratory’s portfolio of innovative projects includes ready-to-use technologies for producing pectin products (pectin extract, pectin concentrate, pectin-containing powder, dry pectin) from various plant materials and food products based on them.
